Don't be duped by opposition's 'hardworking' charade - Nong Chik

KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 (Bernama) -- Voters in the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency have been advised not to be duped by the opposition's sudden diligent acts in going down to the ground to win votes in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Its Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the inconsistency of the opposition was proven during the two terms which Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) held the parliamentary seat.

"PKR held Lembah Pantai for two terms but it was inconsistent in approaching the people. They only appeared to be hardworking when the GE was near.

"She (Nurul Izzah Anwar) marginalised the people's issues here because she was busy with national issues, now she makes a beeline to another place.

"It is different with the BN. Although I lost in GE13, for the past five years we (BN) have been consistently helping the people here," he told reporters after the 'Relaxed Gathering with Retirees' programme at the University Malaya Alumni Club House here today.

Raja Nong Chik will face two new faces, Fauzi Abu Bakar (PAS) and Ahmad Fahmi Muhammad Fadzil (PKR) in GE14. In GE13, he lost to Nurul Izzah with a majority of 1,847 votes.

On the three-corner competition, Raja Nong Chik believed it could be an advantage to BN.

"Nevertheless, we cannot be too comfortable even though they are new faces. The main focus is to ensure a BN win," he said.

He said the Lembah Pantai BN would announce a special manifesto for the people there, come next week.

Meanwhile, more than 600 pensioners and members of the UMNO Club Retired Senior Civil Servants attended the programme. Also present was club president, Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat.
