BUTTERWORTH, April 25 (Bernama) -- The Penang Front Party (PFP) today named a father-daughter team to contest in two state constituencies for the 14th General Election (GE14).

PFP vice-president J. Edward, 61, has been named to contest in the Bukit Tengah state seat while daughter, Daphne, 38, will vie for the Jawi state seat.

Edward, who is the oldest candidate to contest under PFP, hoped Penang voters would give him and his daughter a chance to serve them as his experience in the state political arena would be an advantage.

"I have a plan to resolve the flood and congestion issues faced by the people in my constituency and if given a chance, I would like to represent their voice in the state legislative assembly," he told Bernama here today.

Earlier, PFP president Datuk Patrick Ooi Khar Giap announced the party would contest one parliamentary seat and 13 state seats in GE14.

Edward, who was formerly PKR member, said he did not train his daughter to follow in his foot steps but it was her interest to help those in need.

Eldest daughter, Daphne, a business consultant, said since young, she had been following her father to carry out his duties to help the people.

"My father did not ask me to join him in politics, (rather) it was my decision to join the party two years ago to offer my expertise to help the people," she said, adding the constituency was badly in need of more job opportunities, education options and low-cost houses.

Both Edward and Daphne are expected to be involved in five-corner fights in their respective constituencies.

Edward will face PAS, PRM, Barisan Nasional (BN) and PKR candidates in the Bukit Tengah state seat while Daphne will face DAP, MU, PRM and BN candidates in the Jawi state seat.
