BN Sabah Manifesto pledges to safeguard state's rights





KOTA KINABALU, April 25 (Bernama) -- Safeguarding the rights and interests of Sabah as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 is among the 20 promises offered by the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) manifesto if it is given the mandate to lead the state in the 14th general election (GE14).

Sabah Chief Minister, who is also Sabah BN chairman Tan Sri Musa Aman unveiled the manifesto themed 'Tanah Airku Maju' here, tonight.

He said BN also promised to nurture close relations between different religions and races and the agenda institutionalised through the Special Religious and Race Relations Unit under the Chief Minister's Office, as well as uphold its commitment to extend power sharing at all levels of administration.

Musa said BN also promised to intensify its agenda to eradicate poverty to zero and to build more affordable homes for the B40 group.

He said another BN promise was to continue to address the issue of illegal immigrants by carrying out continuous efforts to repatriate the illegals and to intensify the enforcement through the implementation of the 'zero day without operation' programme.

Musa added that the promise to strengthen the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) by increasing its assets and equipment as well as number of personnel was also emphasised in the state BN election manifesto to safeguard the state's borders and its sovereignty.

Apart from its promise to create job opportunities that was fair to everyone, the manifesto also pledged to continue with a more efficient land management and to intensifying the effort to protect the environment towards green economy, he said.

BN, he said, also promised to bridge the gap between urban and rural development through the Sabah Development Corridor in every district as well as the implementation of the Pan Borneo Highway that would increase the people's connectivity throughout the state.

Another pledge offered in the manifesto was the commitment for women development and to ensure gender equality for women would be safeguarded at all levels.

Also emphasised in the BN manifesto was BN's promises to ensure the development of youth and sports, human capital development, strengthening the state's financial and economic situation, to spur the agricultural sector, to boost the tourism industry and to stimulate the growth of the oil and gas industry.

BN's manifesto also pledged to create a government with integrity by intensifying the fight against corruption and to improve the efficiency of the government's delivery system.

Efforts to expand the Internet broadband access was also emphasised in the Sabah BN manifesto to ensure greater Sabahan participation in the global community and technology-based entrepreneurship as well as in the education, in line with the demands of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

"All the 20 pledges mentioned earlier are BN's promises to all the people in Sabah. The pledges born of our sincerity and honesty in defending the people's wellbeing as well as developing the state, God willing, we have more things to do for the benefit of the people and the state.

"Our goal is not only to achieve developed state status, but also to ensure prosperity of the people. With the continuous trust and mandate from the people, we will continue this struggle," he said.
