PAS named Zubir Ahmad as candidate for Langkawi

ALOR SETAR, April 26 (Bernama) -- PAS today named Langkawi PAS division chief Zubir Ahmad, 55, as the party's candidate to contest the Langkawi parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election on May 9.

Kedah PAS commissioner Ahmad Fakhruddin Sheikh Fakhrurazi also announced the Jerai PAS division chief Mohd Sabri Azit, 52, as the candidate for Jerai parliamentary seat, replacing the original candidate Mohamad Ismail.

"In the last general election, Zubir was fielded for the Ayer Hangat state seat in Langkawi parliamentary constituency, and this time around, we will nominate him to contest the parliamentary seat.

"We are confident that he and his experience will be able to attract the people to support PAS," he told a media conference at the Kedah PAS Complex here today.

Zubir will face incumbent Datuk Ir Nawawi Ahmad of Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

On the replacement of the party's candidate for Jerai parliamentary seat, Ahmad Fakhruddin said Mohamad had to be replaced due to a legal technical problem.

"After taking into account all the factors, we decided to replace Mohamad with Mohd Sabri, a new face," he added.
