GE14: Police identify 19 parliamentary, 31 state constituencies as 'hot spots' in Perak

IPOH, April 26 (Bernama) -- The police have identified 19 parliamentary and 31 state constituencies statewide as 'hot spots' in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Perak police chief, Datuk Hasnan Hassan said of the total, five areas were considered the 'hottest spots' which needed to be closely monitored to avoid any untoward incident.

However, he refused to name the five areas.

Meanwhile, Hasnan said all district police chiefs were directed to hold a meeting with candidates, agents, proposers and supporters before nomination day to explain the rules and regulations prior to entering nomination centres.

"This is to avoid chaos at nomination halls. On nomination day, party supporters are required to comply with the agreed rules or instructions and not hold any procession before or after nomination," he told a media conference at the Perak police contingent headquarters here today.

He also urged candidates or agents of contesting parties to obtain permits to hold political talks during the campaign for the GE14 as stated under Section 24B (3) of the Election Offences Act 1954.

Hasnan said over 1.1 million voters in the state would fulfill their responsibility in the GE14, involving 778 voting centres.

The Election Commission has fixed May 9 as polling day. Nomination is on April 28 while early voting is on May 5.
