Perlis BN launches manisfesto with five thrust areas

KANGAR, April 26 (Bernama) -- Perlis Barisan Nasional (BN) today launched its manifesto for the 14th general election (GE14) with the theme 'Towards the People's Prosperity' which comprises five core thrust areas aimed at continuing the state's developmental and administrative efforts.

The five thrust areas encompasses development, economy and infrastructure; improving the quality of life; generating employment and business; emphasis on welfare issues; and empowering education.

Chairman of Perlis BN, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the Perlis BN manifesto was supplementary to the pledges and commitment of BN at the federal level.

Among others, the Perlis BN manifesto on economic and infrastructural development included the re-opening of the Wang Kelian border near here to generate economic and tourism activities, with emphasis on security and tackling cross-border crimes.

"The Padang Besar Free Trade Zone will also be created to boost economic activities along the border, opening up business opportunities and jobs to the local people," he said when announcing the Perlis BN manifesto here today.

Shahidan said Perlis BN will also focus on economic development in Bandar Baharu Kuala Sanglang, with attention on the need for affordable home and commercial buildings for the benefit of the local community.

"As many as 1,000 units of the People's Housing Project (PPR) will be built while the 1Malaysia People's Housing Scheme (PR1MA) will be built in each parliamentary constituency," he said.

For the younger generation who are motoring fans, Shahidan announced a sprint test circuit would be built, while an Xtreme Park will also be constructed for extreme sports enthusiasts.

To create more jobs and business opportunities, Perlis BN will transform the state into a tourism hub by creating more products and new destinations as well as starting economic areas, he said.

"BN will also provide new business locations which are comfortable and consumer-friendly, and extend the aid programme to stalls and small traders," he said.

Shahidan said as proof of the BN government's concern for the welfare of the people, the People's Sales programme would be held in stages in various strategic locations.

"The aid scheme for single mothers will also be extended with various training programmes so that they can be independent, while welfare aid for certain target groups including the handicapped, orphans and senior citizens will be improved," he said.

In the effort to empower education, the syllabus and facilities of primary Islamic religious schools under Yayasan Islam Perlis would be improved to make Perlis a high performance state not just in secondary education but also at the primary level, he said.

"A new university and branch campus which will create a spillover effect on the local community will also be built to generate a paradigm shift in the community about the learning culture.

"There are many benefits to be had from the BN manifesto, so support must be given to BN so that these plans can materialise," he said.
