Ex-Labuan MP rallies behind BN candidate Rozman

LABUAN, April 26 (Bernama) -- A former Labuan member of parliament has voiced his support for incumbent Datuk Rozman Isli to defend the Barisan Nasional (BN) seat in the 14th general election (GE14).

Datuk Yussof Mahal said Rozman's candidacy would help spur BN to victory with a bigger vote-majority due to the strong support of component parties and the people on the duty-free-island.

"Being a former MP, I openly support Rozman's candidacy as BN candidate for GE14 for the continuation of the development and unity of the multiracial community in Labuan.

"I am optimistic with the attention and development brought by the federal government to Labuan, that Rozman will win handsomely. BN has a proven track record in the development of Labuan since its elevation as one of the federal territories.

"Many of our requests to the federal government have been fulfilled and that's being enjoyed by the people in Labuan; we are confident Labuanites will benefit continuously by ensuring the BN government continues to govern the country after GE14," he said.

He said Labuan was never marginalised by the BN-led federal government; thus it was logical to continue supporting BN in GE14.

"We requested for higher learning institutions, now we have the University Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) and Labuan Matriculation College (KML); we wanted economic and business activities and employment opportunities, Labuan has become an international financial centre and oil and gas hub; we want a bridge to Sabah, the implementation study is being completed.

"It is undeniable that Labuan is experiencing a slight economic slowdown following the slump in global oil prices, and this is beyond the federal government's control, and we know this is only temporary and we have noticed there has been an increase in the oil and gas sector activity on the island."

He called on the Labuan population to turn out in full force on polling day, May 9, to return the mandate to BN.
