Shahidan to defend Arau, Azlan moves to contest Bintong state seat
KANGAR, April 26 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim will defend his Arau parliamentary seat, while Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man will move from the Pauh state seat to Bintong in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Azlan, who had earlier been tipped to move to Kangar parliamentary constituency, replaced Perlis Wanita UMNO chief Hajah Rela Ahmad, whose name was dropped.
Risda chairman Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin will be defending his Padang Besar parliamentary seat while new candidate Ramli Shariff, 57, will contest the Kangar parliament seat, replacing Ir Shaharuddin Ismail, whose name was also dropped.
Shahidan, who is also Perlis Barisan Nasional (BN) Liaison Committee chairman announced the Perlis BN's list of candidates for the GE14 at Dewan 2020 here today.
In addition to Ramli, BN also listed were nine other news faces and two former state executive councillors, namely Azihani Ali and Deputy Prime Minister's special officer Datuk Azam Rashid from UMNO to contest the state seats.
Perlis MCA also has two new candidates, with Padang Besar MCA chief Tei Chai Ann, replacing Perlis MCA deputy chairman Khaw Hock Kong in the Titi Tinggi state seat, and Kangar division chief Chuah Tian Hee to contest the Indera Kayangan state seat.
Meanwhile, Rozaini Rais will be replacing Datuk Mat Rawi Kassim in the Beseri state seat, while Siti Berenee Yahaya will replace Datuk Khairi Hassan (Mata Ayer) and Padang Besar chairman Azizan Sulaiman replaces Datuk Sabry Ahmad (Santan).
Kangar UMNO Youth chief Hamizan Hassan will contest the Kayang seat, while two Arau UMNO Division members, Rozieana Ahmad and Afifi Osman will contest the Pauh and Guar Sanji state seats respectively.
Sanglang branch chief Che Zaidi Saidin will be fielded as BN candidate in Sanglang.
Hamizan replaces executive councilor Ahmad Bakri Ali while Afifi replaces the Jafperi Othman, whose name was dropped.
Two executive councilors will be defending their seats, namely Asmaiza Ahmad (Chuping) and Nurulhisham Yaakob (Simpang Empat).
Datuk Ismail Kassim, who is Shahidan's brother, will be defending his Tambun Tulang state seat.
