Datin Shamsiah Arshad named as BN's candidate for Bukit Ibam

KUANTAN, April 26 (Bernama) -- Rompin Wanita UMNO chief Datin Shamsiah Arshad is the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate to contest the Bukit Ibam state seat, replacing Datuk Wan Kadri Wan Mahusain.

Her name was announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob this evening, hence completing the list of Pahang BN candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14).

The selection of Shamsiah brings the number of BN women candidates to contest in the GE14 to six, and the number of new faces to 17.

Adnan said Shamsiah was one of four names proposed by Rompin UMNO Division to be fielded as a candidate.

"The election of Shamsiah is also to fill the quota of female candidates. We dropped a woman, Datuk Maznah Mazlan, from the list, but we replaced her with another woman," he told reporters at the Pahang Foundation complex here today.
