Tungku BN women wings laud Mizma's candidacy
LAHAD DATU, April 26 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Tungku state constituency, Mizma Appehdullah looks at her responsibility to retain the seat for the coalition in GE14 as an opportunity to prove the significance of women in politics.
"I am committed in carrying the responsibility entrusted to me and the party machinery to achieve victory for BN on May 9," the Silam Wanita UMNO chief told Bernama here today.
Mizma created history for herself by being the first woman to be nominated to stand in Tungku.
Lahad Datu has one parliamentary seat - Silam, and three state constituencies, Kunak, Lahad Datu and Tungku.
Meanwhile, Silam Puteri UMNO chief Zuraidah Asdain described BN's choice of Mizma for Tungku as proof that the coalition was earnest in wanting to enhance the role of women as leaders.
Silam Wanita Gerakan chief Silam Marlina Macpee described Mizma as strong and had the potential to spur the development of women in Lahad Datu.
The Tungku seat was held by BN's Datuk Mohd Suhaili Said before his demise on March 24 last year.
