LANGKAWI, April 26 (Bernama) -- A member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Langkawi division today headed a protest against the selection of the party candidate for the Kuah state seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Mohamad Ratu Mansor, who claimed to represent about 6,000 PPBM members from 11 polling district centres in the Kuah state constituency said the selection of Mohd Firdaus Ahmad as the candidate was made without discussing the matter with the grassroots.

"I am disappointed with the decision by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed (PPBM chairman) as the selection of the candidate for the Kuah state seat was made without following procedure.

"We have informed the leadership about this matter but until now no action (change the candidate) has been taken," he told a media conference here.

The selection of Mohd Firdaus, 32, was announced by Dr Mahathir at a gathering held at Padang Matsirat here on April 15.

Tun Mahathir himself will contest the Langkawi parliamentary seat in the GE14 while a pensioner, Juhari Bulat, 60, was announced as the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Ayer Hangat state seat.

Mohamad Ratu said they would give time until the nomination day on Saturday for the party leadership to review their decision.
