Stern action against paragliders, drone users during nomination day - police

IPOH, April 27 (Bernama) -- Police will be taking stern action against those using paragliding machines and drones during the nomination process of candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14) tomorrow.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the ban on the use of the machines and devices on nomination day was due to security reasons.

"The use of paragliding (machines) and drones (on the nomination day) is illegal. The Royal Malaysian Police Air Wing Unit (PGU) is responsible for air surveillance."

"This (the use of the machines and devices) is under the purview of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). As such, approval from the CAAM is needed if (people) want to use them," he said.

Zulkifli said this to reporters after meeting 500 members of the PGU, VAT 69 Commando, General Operations Force and the Federal Reserve Unit who would be deployed for the GE14 at the PGU Training Base here today.

He added that all police personnel who had been assigned for the nomination day were now well-prepared to ensure the process would go smoothly.
