Puteri UMNO best platform to churn out young women leaders
ALOR GAJAH, April 27 (Bernama) -- The Puteri UMNO movement is the best platform to churn out young leaders among women in the country, said the movement's head, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
She said this was apparent from the fact that many of the former members of the Barisan Nasional (BN) wing were announced as candidates in the 14th General Election (GE14).
"So far, 17 former and present members of Puteri UMNO have been selected as candidates for GE14 and this showed an increase in the number compared to the last general election.
"For example, in Pahang out of the three women candidates, two were former members of the movement while in Perlis, two of the four candidates were former Puteri members, and Selangor three," she told reporters after a Finance Ministry Programme with the people at the Melaka state level, in Masjid Tanah here today.
The programme was officiated by the Secretary-General of the Finance Ministry, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah and attended by UMNO executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Commenting further, Mas Ermieyati said the achievement proved that the training and programme to churn out young women leaders carried out by the party wing could not be disputed.
