Only candidates, agents can apply for permit to campaign - police
IPOH, April 27 (Bernama) -- Only candidates or their election agents can apply for permit to hold ceramah (open public lecture) during the campaign period as provided under Section 24B (3) of the Election offences Act 1954, said Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan.
In a statement issued here today, he said for application made under the provision, there was no time limit for the application.
He said the candidates or their election agents who obtained the permit could allow any quarters to do the campaigning on the date, time and place as stated in the permit.
"Meanwhile, for individuals, apart from the candidates or their election agents,who want to hold a public rally, they have to apply for a notice as required under Section 9 (1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012."
"However, the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 does not apply to any candidates or their appointed election agents to hold ceramah during the campaign period," he said.
