7,914 nomination forms for GE14 sold - EC
KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- The Election Commission (EC) has sold a total of 7,914 nomination forms for the 14th General Election (GE14) as at 5 pm today.
The EC, in a statement today, said of the total, 2,676 were the nomination forms for parliamentary seats while another 5,238 were for state seats.
A total of 199 nomination forms were sold in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, while another 295 forms were sold in Sarawak.
Sabah and Labuan recorded the highest number of forms sold at 1,262 (383 parliamentary, 879 state seats), followed by Selangor at 824 (238 parliamentary, 586 state seats); Kelantan at 801(197 parliamentary, 604 state seats); Perak at 749 (234 parliamentary, 515 state seats) and Johor at 724 (265 parliament, 459 state seats).
In Penang, a total of 150 nomination forms for parliamentary seats and 500 state seats were sold; Kedah (162 parliamentary, 375 state seats); Pahang (137 parliament, 332 state seats); Negeri Sembilan (78 parliament, 310 state seats); Melaka (146 parliament, 169 state seats); Terengganu (70 parliament, 242 state seats) and Perlis (39 parliament, 179 state seats).
According to the statement, 83 parliamentary nomination forms and 88 state nomination forms were also being sold at its headquarters in Putrajaya.
Meanwhile, the EC has also established a media centre at the Menara SPR here, for the convenience of the members of the media to cover the GE14 from April 28 to May 9.
"The media centre will operate from 9 am to 10 pm at Level 1 and 2, Menara SPR in Putrajaya, and all print and electronic media representatives are invited to use the facility. However, it is limited to a maximum of 120 media members at any one time," the statement said.
The nomination for the GE14 is tomorrow while the polling day is on May 9 and early voting is on May 5.
The number of seats up for contest in the GE14 time remains the same as in GE13, that is 222 for parliamentary seats and 505 state seats.
