Nomination for GE14 begins at 9 am




KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- The nomination of candidates for the 14th general election (GE14) is scheduled from 9 am to 10 am today at 222 centres across the country.

The nomination is for the 222 parliamentary and 505 state seats nationwide. Nomination in Sarawak is only for the 31 parliamentary seats. The Sarawak state elections were held in 2016.

The Meteorological Department has forecast fine weather for most of the country in the morning, except Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, Perak and Johor.

Rain is predicted in the morning in Sarawak in areas such as Sri Aman, Tanjong Manis, Hulu Rajang, Sibuti, Baram, Lawas, Lubok Antu, Igan, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang, and Beaufort, Kinabatangan, Sipitang, Sandakan and Silam in Sabah, as well as the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Rain is also forecast for Larut, Bagan Serai, Lumut and Parit Buntar in Perak as well as Sembrong in Johor.

Parliament was dissolved on April 7 to make way for GE14, which has been described as ?the mother of all elections? that will witness contests mainly between BN, which is led by UMNO, and the DAP-dominated opposition pact.

Following the dissolution of Parliament, the Election Commission set today for the nomination, May 5 for early voting and May 9 for polling.
