GE14: Najib submits nomination papers to contest Pekan Parliamentary seat
PEKAN, April 28 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today submitted his nomination papers to contest the Pekan parliamentary seat in GE14 at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Convention Hall here.
Najib, in dark blue Baju Melayu and accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, arrived at the Pekan UMNO Building at 8.35 am and, accompanied by a large group of supporters, marched to the nomination centre about 300 metres away to arrive there at 9 am.
Accompanying the Barisan Nasional chairman were four BN candidates for state seats, namely Khairuddin Mahmud (Pulau Manis), Datuk Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (Peramu Jaya), Mohd Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff (Bebar) and Datuk Abu Bakar Harun (Chini).
Najib, who is defending the Pekan seat he has held since 1976, smiled and waved at the BN supporters who were in high spirits as they carried banners and posters and shouted 'Hidup BN' (Long Live BN) as they marched to the convention hall.
In GE13, Najib won the seat with a 35,613-vote majority in a straight fight with Mohd Fariz Abd Talib of PKR.
This time around, he is expected to be engaged in a three-cornered contest with candidates from PKR and PAS.
