GE14: Najib faces three contestants in defence of Pekan seat
PEKAN, April 28 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is challenged by three contestants in the Pekan parliamentary seat where he is seeking re-election for the 10th term.
They are Mohamad Zahid Mat Arip of PKR-PPBM, Capt (Rtd) Ahiatudin Daud of PAS and Johor contractor Datuk Kadir Sainudin, who is standing as an Independent. Mohamad Zahid, a member of the PPBM Supreme Council, is a grandson of former Deputy Prime Minister Tun Ghafar Baba while Ahiatudin is Pekan PAS deputy chief.
Returning Officer Md Yusli Ibrahim Mohd Yunus announced the names of all the contestants at 11.35 am.
Najib, who is BN chairman, submitted his nomination papers at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Convention Hall at 9 am. He has held the Pekan seat since 1976.
The Prime Minister arrived at the Pekan UMNO building with his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at 8.35 am accompanied by local UMNO leaders and four BN candidates for state seats.
