GE14: Nurul Izzah defends mother's Permatang Pauh seat in three-cornered fight
BUKIT MERTAJAM, April 28 (Bernama) -- The PKR-stronghold of Permatang Pauh will see a three-cornered fight among PKR, BN and PAS candidates.
PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, 38, is defending the parliamentary seat last held by her mother, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and faces a challenge from Permatang Pauh UMNO Division chief Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said, 49, of BN and Penang PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, 37.
Afnan Hamimi was the first to submit the nomination papers, at 9.06 am, at the nomination centre at the National Youth Skills Institute.
Mohd Zaidi arrived at the nomination centre at 8.40 am with about 800 supporters.
Permatang Pauh Returning Officer Mohd Ali Sebran announced the candidates for Permatang Pauh and the Seberang Jaya, Permatang Pasir and Penanti state seats at 11.45 am.
Dr Afif Bahardin,32, of PKR is defending the Seberang Jaya seat against Permatang Pauh UMNO Youth chief Abu Bakar Sidekh Zainul Abidin, 42, of BN and Penang PAS Youth vice-chief Ahmad Rafaei Rashid, 40.
The Permatang Pasir seat is a contest among Annuar Faisal Yahaya, 40, of BN, Penang PAS commissioner Mohammad Fauzi Yusoff, 47, and Amanah Youth deputy chief Muhammad Faiz Fadzil, 41.
Penanti will see Dr Norlela Ariffin, 55, of PKR defending the seat against Permatang Pauh UMNO Division secretary Suhaimi Sabudin, 47, of BN and Fawwaz Mohamad Jan, 35, of PAS.
