Noh Omar faces three-cornered fight in Tanjong Karang
TANJONG KARANG, April 28 (Bernama) -- Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Tan Sri Noh Omar will defend his Tanjong Karang parliamentary seat against contenders from PAS and PKR in the 14th general election.
Tanjung Karang returning officer Shamsul Shahril Badliza Mohd Noor confirmed their nominations at the Datuk Hormat Hall here today.
Noh, 60, who is also Selangor BN chairman, has been the member of parliament for Tanjong Karang for five terms since 1995.
PAS candidate Nor Azlan Ahmad is the coordinator for the party's service centre in Tanjong Karang, while the PKR candidate is Capt (rtd) Datuk Dr Zulkaferi Hanafi.
In the last general election, Noh won the Tanjong Karang parliamentary seat by a majority of 4,394 votes.
For the Permatang state seat, a three-cornered fight involves the incumbent Datuk Sulaiman Abdul Razak from BN, PKR candidate Rozana Zainal Abidin and PAS candidate Muhammad Jafaruddin Sheikh Daud.
A three-cornered fight is also seen in the Sungai Burong state seat with incumbent Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias from BN facing PAS' Mohamad Zamri Moh Zainuldin and Tarmizi Lazim (PKR).
The Tanjong Karang Parliamentary constituency has 47,198 registered voters comprising 35,382 Malays, 7,532 Chinese, 4,240 Indians and 44 others.
