Ge14: Evaluate my performance, services to Stampin, state - Dr Sim
KUCHING, April 28 (Bernama) -- BN candidate for Stampin parliamentary seat, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian wants the voters to evaluate his performance and services rendered to the people in Sarawak, especially in the constituency when voting in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) president, said the assessment was crucial so that the 66,240 registered voters could avoid being swayed by the 'soliciting sympathy' campaign that would be used by the opposition parties.
"I want my record of services and that of the BN to become the voters' rating. Voters must look at my character and, most importantly, my services as the Batu Kawah assemblyman in the last two years.
"Give me the chance to fight not only for Stampin but also for Sarawak," he told reporters after the nomination process was concluded at the Padawan Municipal Council Hall in Kota Padawan near here today.
In the GE14 on May 9, Stampin will see a straight fight between Dr Sim and Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who is also Kota Sentosa assemblyman.
When asked to comment on his chances of winning, Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak Local Government and Housing Minister, said despite regarding himself as the underdog, he still had the chance to win the seat.
"My answer is 'yes' if everybody work hard, I believe I am the underdog but we can narrow the gap in the next eleven days (campaigning period)," said the cardiologist.
The Stampin parliamentary constituency was previously held by the BN but in the GE13, its incumbent Datuk Yong Khoon Seng was defeated by Julian Tan Kok Ping of DAP with a 18,670-majority vote.
