DPM launches special manifesto for Bagan Datuk





BAGAN DATUK, April 28 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today launched the special Barisan Nasional (BN) manifesto for Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat for all strata of the community in terms of economic development and prosperity for the district in the next five years.

He said the special manifesto themed 'Together with BN, for Our Greater Bagan Datuk' was in line with 14 BN core manifesto launched by the Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on April 7.

Among the pledges to Bagan Datuk voters included the creation of more than 10,000 job opportunities in villages by smart sharing of matching work apart from creating the best original Bagan Datuk products, develop the Bagan Datuk Water City, construction of a hospital and the district police headquarters apart from assisting entrepreneurs at all levels, he said.

"It is not easy to start something with such major shortcomings but I am confident with the support of all races in Bagan Datuk as well as all political parties and non-government organisations, we could realise it.

"We are confident of realising all the pledges in the manifesto. We want all Bagan Datuk residents to develop this land as planned," he said at the launching of the special Bagan Datuk manifesto at Dewan Hajah Tuminah in Kampung Sungai Nipah Darat here today.

Also present were two BN state seat candidates, Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya for Rungkup and Datuk Khairuddin Tarmizi for Hutan Melintang.

The 14 core contents of the special manifesto included the economic needs of the people, the younger generation as inheritors, strengthening nation-building, bumiputra agenda and defending Islam, housing needs of the people, well-being and success of women as well as good governance and people participation.

Apart from that, the other cores are sustainability and prosperity of the economy, well-being of senior citizens and disabled people, driving human resource, excellence in education, prioritising people's social well-being and quality of life, security of the people, construction of people infra and improve linkages and celebrate diversity.

Meanwhile, at the launching of a special manifesto for Indian community at Dewan Sanmarka, Simpang Empat here, Ahmad Zahid said Bagan Datuk BN was offering 17 pledges to improve the well-being of the Indian community here.

The gist included provision of allocations to repair temples as well as restoring and upgrading Tamil Primary Schools (SJKT) in Bagan Datuk, wider access to education for youths through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at Bagan Datuk Polytechnics and Bagan Datuk Community College.

"We will raise the involvement of the Indian community under the North Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) in Bagan Datuk apart from offering business revolving funds to assist Indian entrepreneurs through Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) and TEKUN Nasional.

"We are also offering initiatives to the Indian community to own affordable houses through the People's Housing Programme and assist the B40 group registered in the data base, e-Kasih," he said.

Meanwhile, when launching the BN's special manifesto for Bagan Datuk's Chinese community, Ahmad Zahid said it was specially formulated to advance the community over the next five years.

The following are the highlights of the special manifesto:-

(1) Resolve issues faced by the Chinese fishing community

(2) Widen access to education to youths from the community through participation in Technical, Vocational Education and Training or TVET courses at Politeknik Bagan Datuk and Kolej Komuniti Bagan Datuk which are to be built

(3) increase involvement of the community in the Komuniti Agropreneur NCIA programme in the district

(4) offer revolving business capital to assist Chinese entrepreneurs in Bagan Datuk via Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) and TEKUN Nasional

(5) increase ownership of affordable homes by the community through the Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Bagan Datuk programme

(6) Ensure that Chinese households in the lower income bracket (B40 group) which are below the poverty line register with eKasih ( a database on needy groups)

(7) Excellence awards for outstanding students in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3) assessments with reward of RM1,000 for scoring 5A and above

(8) Repair and upgrade drainage systems in Chinese villages.
