Almost all Sabah BN top leaders to face more than three-corner fights
KOTA KINABALU, April 28 (Bernama) -- Almost all top leaders of the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) will face more than three-corner fights in the 14th General Election (GE14) except for state UMNO Liaison chief and BN chairman Tan Sri Musa Aman.
Musa who will be defending the Sungai Sibuga state seat will contest in a three-corner fight against Asmara Abdul Rahman of Warisan and Osman Enting of PKS.
Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan who will be defending the Tambunan state seat is challenged by three contenders namely his brother Datuk Geoffrey Kitingan of SOLIDARITI, Justin Alip (Warisan) dan Nestor Joannes PCS.
In the 13th general election, Musa won the Sungai Sibuga state seat with a majority of 2,079 votes while Pairin won the Tambunan seat with 11,569 majority votes.
PBS deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili who is performing the duties of party president and Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister will also be facing a four-corner fight against Paul Porodong (PCS), Datuk Maijol Mahap Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (HR) and Barlus Mangabis (Warisan).
UPKO acting president and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau who is defending the Tuaran parliamentary seat is opposed by Chrisnadia Sinan (PKR), Syra Peter (HR), Datuk Kalakau Untol (PCS) and Mohd Aminuddin Aling (PAS) in a five-corner fight.
In the last general election, Madius won the Tuaran parliamentary seat by 5,190 votes in a four-corner fight.
LDP president Datuk Teo Chee Kang faces a five-corner fight in the Tanjong Kapor state seat which he won in the last general election with a majority of 1,985 votes.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak faces a four-corner fight in the Kota Belud parliamentary seat which was last held by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
Salleh is challenged by Laiman Ikin (PAS), Miasin Mion (HR) dan Isnaraissah (Warisan).
Abdul Rahman who is contesting in the Sepanggar parliamentary seat also faces a four-corner fight against Warisan Wira chief and former Semporna UMNO division chief Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman, Jeremy Kumin (SAPP) and Robert Sopining (PCS).
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman who is defending the Kimanis parliamentary seat which he won in the last general election with a majority of 5,723 votes is opposed by two contenders namely veteran politician Datuk Karim Bujang of Warisan and pensioner Jaafar Ismail (PKS).
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin is in a four-corner fight in defending the Papar parliamentary seat which she won in the last general election by 10,535 votes, facing Ahmad Hassan (Warisan), Elbert Sikuil (PCS) and Jamil William Core (SOLIDARITI).
For the Beaufort parliamentary seat, Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun faces Datuk Johan OT Ghani of PKR and HR president Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin.
Plantations Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur and Higher Education Deputy Minister Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching face a four-corner fight in defending their respective parliamentary seats.
Datu Nasrun who is contesting in the Silam parliamentary seat which he won in the last general election with a majority of 13,387 votes is opposed by Mohamaddin Ketapi (Warisan), Ramli Pataruddin (PAS) and Siti Shazianti Ajak (HR).
Mary Yap is defending the Tawau parliamentary seat against Christina Liew Chin Jin (PKR), Mohamad Husain (PAS) and Alizaman Jijurahman (HR).
Meanwhile, Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal who is to defend his Semporna parliamentary seat against BN's Datuk Ramlee Marahaban is also challenged by his cousin Datuk Seri Nasir Tun Sakaran for the Senallang state seat.
