Khaidir contesting in Temerloh parliamentary, Lanchang state seats




TEMERLOH, April 28, (Bernama) -- Former TV3 chief news editor Mohd Khaidir Ahmad, 56, who is contesting on an independent ticket in the Temerloh Parliamentary constituency and Lanchang state seat turned up at the nomination centre at Dewan Tun Razak this morning all togged up in 'Baju Melayu' and headgear.

Mohd Khaidir entered the nomination centre at 9 am with his wife Faizah Yusof (seconder) and younger brother (proposer).

Mohd Khaidir, who was met by Bernama after the nomination, said he wore the clothes to symbolise that the Temerloh constituency itself as rich in the history of struggle.

"There are no more struggles for independence because our country has been independent for a long time, but I will still champion the environment, arts and culture and the people," he said.

Mohd Khaidir, who is also a nephew of nationalist Pak Sako, will be contesting in the Temerloh Parliamentary constituency against Temerloh BN chief Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin and Amanah Malaysia secretary-general Anuar Tahir (Amanah).

Also contesting in the seat are Pahang PAS deputy commissioner Md Jusoh Darus and a religious teacher and Muhd Fakhrudin Abu Hanipah (Independent) who came later than all the other candidates.

However, two other independent candidates, Isma Nazom Abdul Hamid, 52, and former Temerloh district officer Datuk Abu Jamal Nordin, 62, who were previously reported to be contesting in the parliamentary seat, did not turn up until the time of nomination closed at 10 am.

Besides the Temerloh parliamentary seat, Khaidir would also be in a four-cornered fight in the Lanchang state seat to face Mohd Sharkar (BN), Abas Awang (PKR) and Hasan Omar (PAS).

In addition, another independent candidate, former MCA Mentakab assemblyman Datuk Chuah Boon Seong, 63, is also involved in a four-cornered fight in the Mentakab state seat.

He said his purpose to contest in the Mentakab state seat was to provide services to the people as he believed there were still many who needed his service after being a two-term BN elected representative.
