SUNGAI BESAR, April 28 (Bernama) -- PKR-PPBM's candidate for the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat, Muslimin Yahya, has admitted that he 'jumped ship' from UMNO to PPBM because he wanted to contest in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Being a member of UMNO for the past 10 years, Muslimin, who was previously a special officer to the Deputy Prime Minister's political secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad, surprised many when he joined PPBM last Tuesday.
"Everyone knows that prior to this, my name was often mentioned as a BN candidate for the parliamentary seat. Hence, I jumped ship, not because I am disappointed, but I am given the opportunity to contest," said the former teacher to reporters here today.
Muslimin, was also a special officer to the late Tan Sri Noriah Kasnon, who was Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities and Sungai Besar MP when she was killed in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5, 2016 during the Sarawak state election, said this when met after the nomination process at the Dewan Seri Bernam, here.
Muslimim is challenging incumbent Budiman Mohd Zohdi from (BN-UMNO) and Mohamed Salleh M Husin (PAS) in the constituency that is also the ruling BN's stronghold.
Asked how he managed to contest for the seat after the PPBM had already announced Mohd Ashyraf Basri as the candidate on Monday, Muslimin said Mohd Ashyraf offered to make for him and the decision was approved by the PPBM leadership council.
