KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he will remain loyal to and will not take for granted the Pekan parliamentary constituency and the constituents.
Najib, who is defending his Pekan parliamentary seat for the 10th term in the 14th General Election (GE14), said he would also continue taking various initiatives and working hard so that the voters could see what he had done and achieved, and cast their votes based on those achievements.
"As the incumbent MP for Pekan, I had this dream to be able to constantly ensure the wellbeing of my constituents and for the constituency to progress further and succeed.
"Today, the dream has been achieved. Pekan is rapidly growing in various fields, from education to employment," the prime minister said in his latest blog entry at www.najibrazak.com today.
He said who would have thought that the small constituency like Pekan would have educational institutions such as the Universiti Malaysia Pahang campus and the DRB-Hicom University of Automotive Malaysia, as well as being the preferred location for international automotive brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Isuzu and Suzuki to open their manufacturing plants, hence creating job opportunities for the locals.
"In fact, I'm very proud to know that the Mercedes-Benz plant in Pekan is the first plant outside Germany which has been entrusted to assemble the most luxurious Mercedes-Benz S-Class!," he said.
Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the development in Pekan was an example of the importance of political stability and continuity which would ensure that every plan made for the constituency would be properly implemented.
"Besides, the development was made possible in Pekan and all other BN-led constituencies because the elected representatives were always working with the people's best interest at heart," said Najib, who has held the Pekan seat since 1976.
He said BN had always stuck to the principle that the elected representatives must be able to be the voice of the people and that it would be left to the people (voters) to judge their performances.
"This differs from the opposition's principle as the selection of their candidates was not due to their intention to serve the constituency and the constituents.
"That is why many of their candidates are hopping from one constituency to another after being there for just one term," he said.
Najib said BN representatives would never be like the opposition's.
"They are so slick, (when new term comes) they will run to another constituency where they think is safe and take away the people's right to judge them for the previous term.
"Some are probably scared because they had been neglecting their constituents, or maybe they won because they had defamed others and now worried that the people will judge them after finding out the truth," he said.
Meanwhile, Najib said he believed that the people and the voters in Pekan were wise enough to make their choices.
"The GE13 records proved that the Pekan constituents are comfortable with me and Barisan Nasional as we managed to retain the seat with a huge majority of 35,163 votes," he said.
Najib said he also believed that the voters in Pekan in particular and in Malaysia in general would cast their votes on May 9 based on the obvious facts and proven track records of BN, and not based on sentiments and fake news bandied about by the opposition.
"Barisan Nasional is capable of winning with bigger majority, not only in Pekan, but also in other constituencies across the country!
"Indeed, only With BN for a Greater Malaysia!" he added.
Najib is in a four-cornered fight to defend his Pekan seat in the GE14.
He is being challenged by Mohamad Zahid Mat Arip of PKR, Captain (Rtd) Ahiatudin Daud (PAS) and Datuk Kadir Sainuddin (Independent).
