UMNO Youth lodges police report over Rafizi's remark
REMBAU, April 28 (Bernama) -- UMNO Youth has lodged a police report against PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli over the latter's remark on a social media platform regarding Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan who was returned unopposed for the Rantau state seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).
UMNO Youth exco Ibdilillah Ishak said the former Pandan MP's statement had clearly tarnished the reputation and credibility of the Election Commission (EC), which had been neutral in handling the electoral process.
"I hope the police will speed up investigations against Rafizi under the Anti-Fake News Act 2018," he told reporters after lodging the report at the Rembau police headquarters here today.
In his posting on social media, Rafizi alleged the EC rejected the nomination papers of PKR's Dr S. Streram to allow Mohamad to win uncontested despite the opposition candidate having arrived at the nomination centre in the Seri Rembau Hall here since 8am.
Elaborating, Ibdilillah said among the alleged statements by Rafizi which were deemed defamatory and malicious were that the EC, menteri besar and the commission's returning officer used the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) to prevent Dr Streram from submitting the nomination form.
Mohamad was declared winning uncontested by EC returning officer Amino Agos Suyub as Dr Streram failed to present the nomination papers after failing to bring along the candidate pass, a document to enable him to enter the nomination centre, as required by the commission.
The announcement saw Mohamad returned to the Rantau state seat for the fourth term since 2004.
In KUALA LUMPUR, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun denied Rafizi's allegations that the police had prevented the PKR man from submitting the nomination form.
"The tasks of RMP personnel involve aspects of safety and the public, and are not related to any nomination process carried out by the EC," he told a press conference at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.
