BN contesting 40 state seats in Penang , Pakatan Harapan 39

GEORGE TOWN, April 28 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional is fielding candidates in all 40 state seats in Penang while Pakatan Harapan is shy of one seat after one of its candidates was disqualified.
The nomination of Yaakob Osman (PKR-PPBM) was rejected by the returning officer after the records showed that he was a bankrupt.
This saw the Penaga seat to be the only state seat to witness a straight fight, between the BN incumbent Datuk Mohd Zain Ahmad and Mohd Yusni Mat Piah from PAS.
The seat comes under the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat which sees a three-cornered fight between the incumbent Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (BN); Siti Mastura Muhammad (PAS) and Dr Zaidi Zakaria (PKR-Amanah).
BN is also fielding candidates in all 19 parliamentary seats in the state which has been opposition hands since the 2008 general election.
In the last general election, BN won only three parliamentary seats, the other two being Tasek Gelugor and Balik Pulau.
Many of the state seats are seeing multi-cornered fights with lesser players also joining the fray. The big players this time around are BN, Pakatan Harapan (DAP, PKR, Amanah and PPBM) where the components are contesting on the PKR ticket because the opposition pact has yet to be recognised by the Registrar of Societies and opposition party PAS which has decided to go it alone.
