Don't take Batu lightly after Tian Chua's disqualification - Mah

TELUK INTAN, April 29 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional machinery should not take lightly the contest for the Batu parliamentary seat in the 14th general election following the rejection of PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang or Tian Chua's nomination by the Election Commission over a court decision.

Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said the Batu constituency is still a four-cornered fight among BN, PAS and two independent candidates.

"I read that Gerakan is said to have won one seat (Batu) following Tian Chua's disqualification but I want to stress that BN has not won yet. We have a huge responsibility to ensure victory is ours on polling day."

"I have advised our candidate (Lau) to work harder for the Batu seat and continue the effort in the election, as anything can happen. Let the court and EC decide on Tian Chua while we still have a lot to do for the constituency," he said.

Mah who is the BN candidate for Teluk Intan was speaking to reporters after a visit to the Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat (People's Sales) in Taman Nenas here today.

The Batu parliamentary seat will see BN's candidate and Gerakan vice-president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai being challenged by Azhar Yahya of PAS and independent candidates V M Panjamothy Muthusamy and P Prabakaran Paramesnaran.

It was reported Tian Chua was fined RM2,000 for insulting police on March 2 by the Shah Alam High Court.

In another development, Mah who is Teluk Intan parliamentary seat incumbent said the BN machinery would continue to campaign in the three-cornered fight against Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming and Dr Ahmad Ramadzan Ahmad Daud of PAS.
