GE14: Abdul Rahman aims to serve as 'bridge' connecting Sepanggar residents with government
SEPANGGAR, April 29 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Sepanggar parliamentary seat Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan aims to serve as a ? bridge' connecting the residents of Sepanggar with the government if he is given the mandate in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Abdul Rahman said that his aim was in line with the spirit and commitment to see progressive and efficient development to continue in Sepanggar, a suburban area of ??Kota Kinabalu, thus fulfilling the aspirations of the locals.
He said this included the launching as well as continuing the existing development agenda and resolving complex issues faced by residents in the constituency such as the housing issue for the squatters, industrialisation, standard of living, social and so on.
"I think that the people in Sepanggar need a representative who has access to both the federal and the state governments because Sepanggar is also facing problems related to urbanisation, similar to other cities in the country."
"Hence, based on my position as a federal minister, I have certain advantages that I can offer to Sepanggar," he said this when met by reporters at the 'Semarak Perpaduan' programme in conjunction with the 'Kaamatan' (Harvest) Festival at the Taman Puterajaya Hall, Telipok, near here today.
Sepanggar, situated about 30 kilometres from the Kota Kinabalu city centre, is not only famous for having many higher education institutions including the Universiti Malaysia Sabah, but also the location of Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, Sepanggar Port as well as manufacturing industry.
With its population of more than 300,000, Sepanggar has also seen the rapid growth of the housing sector as well as becoming a highly popular tourist destination that attracted many particularly to Karambunai.
Therefore, Abdul Rahman said Sepanggar needed a people's representative who has the credibility and ability to provide the best service to boost the constituency's potentials.
In the GE14, Abdul Rahman representing BN, will be challenged by Mohd Azis Jamman (Parti Warisan Sabah); Jeffrey Kumin (Sabah Progressive Party) and Robert Sopining (Parti Cinta Sabah) in a four-cornered fight for the Sepanggar parliamentary seat.
In the last election, BN candidate Datuk Idul Idris won the seat with a 9,442-vote majority.
