Approach voters direct to fend off slanders, fake news - Hishammuddin

MUAR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Warding off slanders and fake news in the social media by irresponsible quarters is among the challenges faced by Barisan Nasional (BN) in its 14th general election (GE14) campaign.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said candidates and machinery should harness their resources to meet voters direct to inform them of the real stories especially to the younger group.
"The war in the social media gave various perceptions of the BN government. So it is is better for us to meet as many voters as possible.
"Make them understand the issues. The message must go down. This is our challenge," he said after a 'Jalinan Kasih' programme at Muar UMNO building here today.
About 1,000 members of People's Volunteer Corps (RELA), Civil Defence Force (APM) and National Service Volunteer Brigade (BSKN) attended the ceremony.
Also present were Muar parliamentary seat incumbent, Datuk Seri Razali Ibrahim, BN Maharani state seat candidate Datuk Ashari Md Sarip and Sungai Balang assemblyman, Zaiton Ismail.
Meanwhile, Hishammuddin expressed his confidence on Muar BN machinery which put the interest of the party above others.
He said the momentum should continue until polling day and the mandate would be given to BN as Muar voters would reject the greenhorn candidate who only knew how to exploit issues instead of focusing on issues of the voters.
"He does not know the issues in Muar, so we must oppose until the end," he said to thunderous applause from the people present.
In GE14, Razali will be challenged by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (PKR-PPBM) and Abdul Aziz Talib (PAS) in defending the Muar seat.
