KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look today pledged seven key initiatives as outlined in a manifesto specially for Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency, themed "Building Wangsa Maju in the future with Excellence".
Yew, who will face a three-cornered fight with PKR and PAS candidates in the 14th general election (GE14) on May 9, among others pledged to build an Urban Transformation Center (UTC) in Wangsa Maju and to relocate Uptown Setapak Indah.
"We will build a two-storey building next to Wangsa Maju Road Transport Department (RTD) ...the UTC will be situated on the top floor and 600 Uptown stalls will be located on the ground floor. This will be more conducive for the traders and shoppers while facilitating those dealing with government agencies at the UTC," he said.
Yew, a seasoned candidate who had won the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat in GE11 in 2004 said this in a press conference after launching the manifesto which was issued in three languages - Malay, English and Mandarin here today.
Other initiatives mentioned in the manifesto are assisting to ensure academic excellence at the National Schools (SK); National Secondary Schools (SMK); Chinese National Type Schools (SJKC); Tamil National Type Schools (SJKT) and relocating the district police headquarters (IPD) to Wangsa Maju.
The manifesto also stated that measures will be taken to solve the traffic problems, construct 5,000 units of affordable homes and upgrade facilities at religious centres.
Meanwhile, Yew said the manifesto was drafted following discussions and feed back from the people and it was earlier submitted to the MCA headquarters to ensure that the pledges could be realised and were not just empty promises.
"I have been here (Wangsa Maju) for 15 years, what were promised previously have been delivered. We are 100 per cent committed and together we can achieve the goals," he said.
