BN sees chance of recapturing Maran parliamentary seat in GE14

MARANG, April 30 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) sees an opportunity for the party to win the Marang parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election (GE-14) based on the rise in number of young voters who were craving for development.

The seat's BN candidate Mohamad Noor Endut said there were many development plans in the pipeline which would spur growth and increase employment opportunities for young people in the constituency if BN succeeds in wresting it from the opposition.

"The Marang parliamentary constituency has almost 60 percent of young voters and these young voters should consider their future, especially in the areas they live in. They need to be represented by a party which puts the people and development first.

"We have been mobilising our party machinery in the parliamentary constituency from the very beginning, right after GE13, in our quest to win the parliamentary and state seats here. We are confident that with the efforts made (by BN), people would be able to evaluate for themselves (on who to pick), " he told Bernama.

The Marang parliamentary seat was won by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in GE13, and he is seeking to defend the seat this time against Mohamad Noor and Zarawi Sulong (PKR).

Mohamad Noor said Marang was a big constituency, and had the potential to attract outside investors, especially from the housing sector, however, development had been stunted due to lack of confidence from investors as there were no government representatives there.

"If we are unable to bring in heavy industries, we can at least bring in investments from the small and medium industry here, which will open up employment opportunities for young people here," he said.

Meanwhile, former Marang MP from BN Datuk Abdul Rahman Bakar expressed confidence that Mohamad Noor was able to become the second 'giant killer' in the contest for the seat.

Abdul Rahman was once known as the 'giant killer' in Marang when the BN representative defeated Abdul Hadi in the 1986 and 2004 elections.

"I am confident that the people are convinced with BN, because it is this party that has brought development, progress and success, to Marang, Terengganu and Malaysia. This is what we have to highlight to the voters this time," he said.
