PAS' Batu candidate denies offer to switch party
KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- PAS' Batu candidate Azhar Yahya has denied allegations that he was made an 'offer' to jump ship to Amanah.
He said the claim was baseless, adding that it would be naive on the part of anyone making such an offer.
"I want to see who aspires to make such an offer (to hop parties). Party (membership) cannot be sold or offered at any price.
"We are going to take the person who makes such an offer to the court for trying to bribe, and undermine the democratic process. Once I have been accepted as PAS candidate and given the letter of electoral candidacy, there is no way back," he said here today.
Azhar said he had been with the party since 1995, and was well versed with and supported all of PAS' values and struggles.
On May 9, the Batu parliamentary constituency will see a four-cornered clash between Gerakan vice-president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau (BN); Azhar (PAS) and two Independent candidates, V. M. Panjamothy Muthusamy and Prabakaran Parameswaran.
The application of incumbent Tian Chua, who is also PKR vice-president to contest in the seat was rejected by the EC following his conviction in a court case in 2013.
