Rafizi claims Rantau PKR candidate was deliberately obstructed
SEREMBAN, April 30 (Bernama) --Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Rafizi Ramli today claimed PKR candidate for the Rantau state seat Dr S. Streram was deliberately prevented from contesting.
The former Pandan parliamentarian claimed that the victory by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who was also the state Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, was not a mandate given by the people, instead it deprived Dr Streram's right to contest.
He also claimed that the State Election Commission (EC) director had instructed the returning officer at the centre to allow Streram to enter even though the candidate had no EC accredited candidate's pass.
"He has paid the deposit and I received a call from (state PKR chairman) Aminuddin (Harun) that Streram was not allowed to enter because he did not have a pass. Until 9.45 am Streram was still not allowed to enter and I told him to barge through (the police check)," he said. in a speech at Ampangan here tonight.
On nomination day at the Seri Rembau Hall last Saturday, Mohamad, who is also the state elected representative for Rantau for three terms since 2004, was announced the winner unopposed after Dr Streram could not submit his candidate's nomination papers after failing to bring the candidate pass as required by the EC to allow him to enter the nomination centre.
