Melaka BN youngest candidate wants to be 'stuck' in the hearts of the people

MELAKA, May 1 (Bernama) -- Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN)´s youngest candidate, Choo Wei Sern, 30, who will contest the Kota Melaka parliamentary seat in the 14th general election will meet the people often so that he becomes 'stuck' in their hearts and minds.

Choo, a lawyer who grew up in Kota Melaka, said this was important because based on his own experience and feedback from the people in the constituency, it was difficult for them to meet the DAP people´s representative to talk about their woes even though this was the party´s stronghold.

"This constituency has been a DAP stronghold since 1969, and so far BN has won it only once. This time, the people I met told me that during the previous terms, the people´s representative did not serve them much.

"Many (people´s representatives) did not go to the ground, and many people did not even know who their representatives were. So my approach is to meet as many people as possible and find out their problems , so that I will be ‘stuck´ in their hearts, " he told Bernama.

In GE14, Choo will face a three-cornered fight with Melaka DAP secretary Khoo Poay Tiong and Independent candidate Goh Leong San.

Goh and the incumbent for the Kota Melaka seat Sim Tong Him are among the four DAP people´s representatives who quit the party in February last year.

Choo who is the chairman of MCA Youth´s Young Professional and Students Bureau said an elected people´s representative should have at least a five-to-ten-year plan to help and develop people in a constituency.

"There is no point being the people´s representative if the people cannot find us. I am not meeting the locals for the first time, I have known them for a long time, and I grew up here, " he said.

Asked about the support of Chinese voters for DAP and the influence of Khoo and Goh as experienced politicians, he said what was important now was that the party or candidate can help the people.

"I feel the voters are more focused on candidates who can work and serve, because Kota Melaka voters have been ignored for a long time, " he said.
