KLUANG, May 1 (Bernama) -- Cutting out the face of an opposition leader from an election campaign billboard is an inappropriate act, says UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammudin Tun Hussien.

He said although the billboard violated the laws and regulations, there was still a more appropriate way to deal with it.

"I neither like nor agree with the move. I don't know who did it, it could be the local authority or Election Commission (EC), but either the face is of the opposition leader or ours, I still think such act is inappropriate.

"If the billboard is unsuitable, just take it down. Cutting out a face from an election billboard is really something that I personally will not agree to," he told reporters after meeting and mingling with the Orang Asli community at Kampung Berasau, Kahang, here today.

Hishammuddin, who is also the incumbent of the Sembrong parliamentary seat, said this in response to the video circulating on social media yesterday which showed a local authority officer cutting out the face of PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad of an election campaign billboard in Ayer HItam.

The EC had previously outlined that only pictures of party president and deputy president could be used on election campaign materials, while other individuals were not allowed.
