KLANG, May 1 (Bernama) -- BN candidate for Kota Raja Parliamentary, V.Gunalan took to task his opponent from PH, Mohamad Sabu for belittling his candidacy for the seat.

The Sepang MIC division chief said no one should belittle candidates of other political parties contesting in the 14th general election (GE14) as each one of them had their own strengths and advantages.

"Mat Sabu (Mohamad Sabu) cannot look down on candidates of any party, as each party select their candidates based on their strengths and capability to provide better service to the people," he told a press conference here today.

Gunalan was responding to the statement made by Mat Sabu who is Amanah president, that Gunalan's candidacy did not pose a challenge for him, thus giving him an easy victory in Kota Raja.

He pointed out that Mat Sabu had a proven record of losing in the 2008 and 2013 general elections in Kuala Terengganu and Pendang, Kedah respectively, and thereby 'ran' to Selangor to seek a safe seat for his political survival.

Gunalan, 45, said on the contrary, being a resident in Dengkil, Selangor, he had a proven track record of helping and uniting many Indians in Sepang, which could swing back Indian votes to BN in Kota Raja.

On his manifesto for Kota Raja residents, the businessman said he intended to resolve the issue of illegal immigrants in Taman Sentosa, besides upgrading the main roads in Kota Raja.

"I also intend to open an Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Kota Raja besides seeking government approval to build a hospital in Kota Kemuning if elected," he said.

The Kota Raja parliamentary constituency will see a three-cornered fight among Gunalan, Mat Sabu and Mohamed Diah Baharun from PAS.

The seat was held by Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud who garnered 59,106 votes for PAS in GE13 to defeat MIC's Datuk S. Murugesan who obtained 29,711 votes and independent candidates P Uthayakumar and Azman Idrus who obtained 2,364 and 280 votes respectively, with a 29,395 majority.
