BN spirit of consensus will ensure success in GE14 - Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Bernama) -- The strong consensus between all Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties will be the basis for its success in the 14th General Election (GE14) on May 9, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

According to him, BN is a structured and disciplined coalition, and its principle of consensus-building showed that component members placed the coalition above everything else, and welcomed candidates chosen to contest with open arms.

"It does not matter if (someone from) MCA is a candidate, it is BN. It does not matter if (someone from) UMNO is a candidate, it is BN too. I does not matter if (someone from) MIC is a candidate, it is BN too.

"With such a spirit, on May 9, Putrajaya will continue to be ours," said the BN chairman during a programme with the people of Wangsa Maju here, tonight.

Thousands of residents and voters in the area turned up for the event.

Also present were the BN candidate for the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look, Wangsa Maju UMNO chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah.

Najib also said that he was satisfied with Wangsa Maju BN's machinery, which he described as enthusiastic.

He also thanked Shafei for placing his loyalty to the party.

Wangsa Maju is an urban parliamentary seat with 88,482 voters, of which 60 per cent are Malays.

It will witness a three-cornered fight between Yew, Dr Tan Yee Kew (PKR) and Razali Tumirin (PAS).

Meanwhile, Najib said BN's effectiveness was also evident when none of its candidates were rejected during the nomination process on April 28, in contrast to the opposition, whereby several of its candidates failed to be registered.

"There was a candidate who forgot to bring her IC and almost got disqualified. Many opposition candidates were disqualified. They didn't even know how to fill up the forms," he said.

"They (Opposition) set up a 'flower' (logo) party. It was de-registered because there were no branch and division-level meetings. Out of nowhere, there was an Annual General Meeting," he said cynically.

Najib also stressed that the Opposition would not be able to establish a stable government as they (components in the opposition pact) did not trust each other.

He further said that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was being used by the opposition to split the Malay votes.

"They are just using Dr Mahathir. A 93-year-old man...he has many disadvantages, but he was invited and forced to split the Malay votes.

"It's obvious they're using each other. It's not a 'gua caya sama lu' (I trust you) but 'gua nak guna you' (I want to use you) situation," he said.

Najib also said BN had a far-reaching agenda to further develop the country so that prosperity could be enjoyed by all.

He added that he great ambitions to improve the quality of life for the people in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, including building a modern and efficient public transport network.
