Yaakob says seeking legal advice on rejection of nomination
KEPALA BATAS, May 1 (Bernama) -- Yaakob Osman, Pakatan' Harapan's candidate for the Penaga state seat in the 14th general election, said he is seeking legal advice over the rejection of his nomination to stand for the seat during nomination on Saturday.
Speaking at opposition rally in Paya Keladi here tonight, Yaakob, who is from PPBM but was to stand on a PKR ticket, said his lawyer had informed him that his nomination was rejected because of a credit card debt amounting to RM10,000, 20 years ago.
He said that he only came to know about it at 10.30am during the nomination process on Saturday.
"I am disappointed that I was not informed about it earlier. I had made a check the day before and did not find any records about my insolvency," he said.
The returning officer disqualified him after finding that he was a bankrupt.
Following his disqualification, the Penaga seat is seeing a straight fight between Barisan Nasional's (BN) Datuk Mohd Zain Ahmad and Yusni Mat Piah of PAS.
