Kampung Ladang Sagga Indian community behind Khairy

REMBAU, May 2 (Bernama) -- The rousing welcome received by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in his one-hour walkabout at Kampung Ladang Sagga here Tuesday spoke volumes for the support of the Indian community of his leadership.

Despite persuasion by the opposition to boycott Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Rembau parliamentary constituency following the unopposed victory of Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan last Saturday, most of the villagers turned up anyway, to meet Khairy in person including taking selfies with him.

M. Muniamamh, 80, described Khairy, who is also BN Youth chairman, as an easygoing leader and friendly.

"The Indians like him due to his easygoing and approachable manner," she told Bernama here.

For 56-year-old S. Savarimutthu, the incumbent Rembau member of parliament had taken care of the welfare of the Indians in the area over the last two terms.

"We, the Indian community, have always been supporting BN because what they are doing is for the good of the country," he said, adding that the menteri besar was a caring man.

Meanwhile, Khairy will face Mustafa Dolah of PAS and Lt Col (Rtd) Roseli Abdul Ghani from PKR in GE14 on May 9.
