Mahathir used by DAP for political gains - Shahrizat

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 (Bernama) -- The nomination of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to contest the Langkawi parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election (GE14) is a strategy by the DAP-led opposition to garner Malay votes.

Barisan Nasional Wanita head, Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said it also showed that DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang was not only using Dr Mahathir for his political gains but also using him to split the Malays.

"At 93, and with health worries, it is cruel to use Dr Mahathir to shoulder the responsibilities given to him."

"We are sorry that Tun (Dr) Mahathir is willing to be used by the DAP," she said in a media statement here today.

In the general election on May 9, the Langkawi parliamentary seat will see a three-cornered fight between BN's candidate and incumbent, Datuk Nawawi Ahmad, Dr Mahathir as PKR candidate and Zubir Ahmad (PAS).
