Mental strength vital during campaigning for party candidates - Dr Subramaniam

SEGAMAT, May 2 (Bernama) -- The task of party candidates while campaigning for the 14th General Election (GE14) is not an easy one as it requires great sacrifice in discharging their responsibilities to the people, says Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

As depicted in the song titled 'Diari YB' of the 1980s and 1990's artiste Amir Amzah Salleh or better known as ND Lala, it portrays the various tasks that a people's representative has to do in carrying out their daily duties.

Dr Subramaniam, who was health minister in the last parliament, said the candidate should have mental strength and sufficient energy during the campaign period before the polling day on May 9.

"I can work all day but I need to take some time away from the hustle and bustle to get peace of mind to be ready to face long daily work schedules. However, I am willing to do so in order to serve the people," he told reporters after a walkabout meeting traders in Jalan Genuang near here today.

Accompanying him were wife, Datin Seri Dr S. Umarani and Barisan Nasional (BN)'s new candidate for the Jementah state seat, Chiam Yok Meng.

Dr Subramaniam, who is MIC president, is defending his three-term Segamat parliamentary seat.
