BN lodges police report over defamatory pamphlets
JOHOR BAHRU, May 2 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional has lodged a police report here on the alleged distribution of defamatory and malicious pamphlets by the opposition aimed at smearing the name of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Johor Bahru BN secretary Abu Talib Alias said the report was lodged after it was discovered that the documents were circulated in the Taman Pelangi housing area in the Stulang state constituency.
"The material, which clearly states Johor DAP as the publisher, was (allegedly) distributed along with the pamphlets of the PKR candidate for the seat, Andrew Chen Kah Eng," he told reporters after lodging the report at the central police station here today.
Abu Talib said both he and Chen had mutually agreed to not use such campaign material in GE14 at a meeting three days ago and claimed that the latter had violated the decision.
"As such, we are asking the police and Election Commission to conduct an investigation, seize the defamatory material and stop its circulation the soonest possible," he said.
Meanwhile, Johor Bahru Southern District Police chief ACP Shahurinain Jais, when contacted, confirmed the report.
