Azwan now wants to be a senator
KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 (Bernama) -- Azwan Ali, controversial celebrity and independent candidate for the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat in the 14th general election now is thinking of becoming a senator.
The 55-year-old said he wanted to follow in the footsteps of the late Tan Sri Jins Shamsuddin, the first Malaysian actor to be appointed a senator.
"I wish to become a senator like the late Tan Sri Datuk Jins Shamsudin. I do not know how the process works but I certainly would like to be a senator," he told reporters here today.
Jins Shamsuddin was appointed as a senator on October 13, 2004 and served for two terms till Feb 11, 2011.
On his chances of winning the seat, the law graduate from Universiti Malaya said he was not thinking too much about it and was leaving everything to Allah.
The seat sees a five-cornered fight with the other candidates being the incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali , who is also his brother and deputy president of PKR, Ampang Wanita UMNO head Salwa Yunus (Barisan Nasional) Ampang PAS information chief Syarifah Hazlizah Syed Ariffin and Ahmad Kamarudin from Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM).
