Terengganu BN women candidates geared for exco role - Shahrizat
MARANG, May 3 (Bernama) -- Terengganu Barisan Nasional (BN) women candidates are ready to take up the role of state executive councillor (exco) if the people give the mandate to BN in the 14th general election (GE14), said Wanita BN chief, Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
She said based on the capabilities and strength of the women candidates it was time for the Terengganu government to appoint these women as excos.
"I would like to thank the Terengganu BN liaison chairman (Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman) for creating history by fielding two Wanita UMNO members to stand for state seats."
"I am here (Terengganu) to meet the BN machinery and support the candidates. I am also urging voters in Terengganu, to vote for the BN," she told reporters at the 'Jelajah Cakna Rakyat' programme for Bukit Payung state constituency here today.
Shahrizat said women who also act as political fighters should be given positions in the state government to enable them to voice their concerns, ideas and opinions on state development plans.
In GE14 Terengganu BN will be fielding Toh Puan Zaitun Mat Amin to contest for the Bukit Payung state seat and Zainun Abu Bakar for the Sura state seat. Both candidates will face three-cornered fights from PAS and PKR.
"If our candidates win the seats they will be a symbol of success for women in the state. Today, we are able to see how Terengganu women have succeeded in entrepreneurship through diligence and discipline," she said.
She said generally the BN women candidates were well-received by voters due to their experience and sincerity in serving the constituents.
"These women candidates are serious in their work and are not around on seasonal basis. They have impressive track records and are sincere in helping people," she added.
