Don't fall for lies and slander - Najib
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (Bernama) -- In desperation to get the people's support, the opposition continues running their campaign for the May 9 polls by degrading, slandering and blaming Barisan Nasional (BN) without any solid evidence, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
The BN chairman said even on the first day the 14th General Election (GE14) campaign, the opposition had made slanderous allegations to launch their slander tsunami, or what he labelled as #TsunamiPhitnah, by saying that BN had conspired with the Election Commission (EC) to thwart the nomination of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates.
"PH often blames the BN for their failures even though it has nothing to do with us. They will simply put the blame on BN even if the faults are theirs to begin with," he said in his latest blog entry at NajibRazak.com today.
Najib said the opposition parties were using the social media platforms to gain sympathy and lie to the people about the real situation, and that their #TsunamiPHitnah so passionately spread through social media and communication medium, including WhatsApp.
He said this was evident when the picture of him and Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor looking at the layout of the Taman Tugu project was photoshopped to appear like they were looking at piles of money.
"That is the dirty tactic played by the opposition and their supporters to degrade me and Barisan Nasional, while at the same time making the people angry with us, " he said.
Najib also rapped the opposition for trying to create panic among the people by propagating false information that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate would be raised to nine per cent if BN won the GE14.
"We are not planning to raise the GST rate, we will maintain it at six per cent, the lowest in ASEAN, " he said.
Najib also said that the opposition was now recycling the slander of the last general election that the BN was bringing in phantom voters from Bangladesh, and claiming that an election banner was written in Bengali language, the official language of Bangladesh, when it was actually written in Telugu, the mother tongue of the Telugu community in Bagan Datuk.
This shows how shallow their knowledge is when it comes to the languages used by the people in the country, he said.
Najib said many more lies and slander had been circulated over the Internet of late, with most of it degrading and defaming BN with the aim to win the people´s support.
He said the compilation of the lies propagated by PH and their supporters could be viewed on BN´s official website.
Meanwhile, the caretaker prime minister also advised the people to screen all information they received during the election season.
"Don´t be too quick to believe the lies and sympathy game played by the opposition."
"They don´t think about people´s interests, they only want to achieve their personal agenda. They say they want to save Malaysia, but the truth is, it is Malaysia that has to be saved from them, " he said.
Najib said Malaysia's various success stories were proof that BN-led government had placed Malaysia on the right track to continue striving towards excellence in the future.
"So, on May 9, let us choose a government that can guarantee political stability in a multiracial society, having a comprehensive and robust national development agenda that will further improve the lives of the people, " he added.
