EC agents must be ethical, not to abuse their power - Noh Omar

KUALA SELANGOR, May 3 (Bernama) -- Election Commission (EC) agents in Selangor are reminded to be more ethical and not abuse their power when carrying out tasks throughout the 14th General Election process.

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said as EC agents it did not mean that they were free to do anything including being involved in politics.

"Last night when I was giving a talk in an event organised by the Joint Management Board of a residential area in Kajang, I was asked to stop by EC agents because I was allegedly not following the rules before being asked to show the permit."

"If that's not enough, the agents also requested our entertainment permit (to screen the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's speech)," said Noh, who is also Selangor BN chairman to reporters after officiating the Kuala Selangor Community College here today.

Also present were Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat candidate Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim.

Noh said the agents' actions were seen as deliberate provocation as he was present at the function on his ministerial capacity.

"I attended the event as KPKT had previously approved an allocation amounting to RM1.2 million to repair the elevator in the residential area."

"... and why do I need to show a permit (to give lecture) whereas it does not apply during the election campaign," he said.

"This EC agents are also Local Authority employees, and if they want to play politics based on the state government, they might as well stop being EC agent because they should shoulder the trust properly and not trying to show authority," he said.
