PAS is contesting in non-Malay majority constituencies to split votes - PKR
SUNGAI SIPUT, May 3 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) today alleged that PAS was contesting in non-Malay majority constituencies in the 14th general election merely to split the votes, in Barisan Nasional's favour.
Its president Datuk Ser Wan Azizah Wan Ismail cited Teluk Intan, where PAS has a candidate even though Malay constituents comprised only 38 per cent of the 66,487 voters, while Chinese, 42 per cent and Indian, 19 per cent.
"In Sungai Siput, PAS is also contesting even though Malay constituents made up 33 per cent of the 55,002 voters, Chinese, 39 per cent, and Indian, 21 per cent," she told a media conference at a gathering at Lasah Felda here today.
The Teluk Intan parliamentary constituency will see a three-cornered fight involving Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong who is defending the seat for BN, DAP's Nga Kor Ming and PAS' Ahmad Ramadzan Ahmad Daud.
The Sungai SIput seat will see a four-cornered fight involving S.Kesavan of PKR, Ishak Ibrahim (PAS), Datuk Seri S. K. Devamany (BN-MIC), and incumbent Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj (PSM).
