Don't sidestep fence sitters - Ahmad Zahid

BUKIT GANTANG, May 3 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery are urged not to avoid fence sitters, instead, to use the right approach to attract them to support BN in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the machinery should approach the group without any prejudice, as these fence sitters have been watching the BN with cynical minds all this time.

"Do not sidestep them, whether they do support us or not, each vote is important."

"Even though they made mistake by voting other parties, this time if we use the right approach I'm confident they will turn around and return to us," he said in his speech at the leader-meet-the people programme tonight.

Also present were Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat candidate Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Kuala Sepetang state seat candidate Mohd Kamaruddin Abu Bakar, as well as Changkat Jering and Trong state seats candidates, namely, Ahmad Saidi Mohamad Daud and Jamilah Zakaria, respectively.

Ahmad Zahid was also convinced that BN could regain the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat in the GE14 as BN lost the seat by only 986 votes in the GE13.

"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also BN chairman, has chosen Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz as a candidate and supported by all component parties, as well as Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, to win the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat," he said.

He also urged the Bukit Gantang voters to support all BN candidates so that the party could defend the Trong state seat and to win the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat as well as Kuala Sepetang and Changkat Jering state seats.

He also reminded all BN candidates in the area to solve the problems of the people if they were given the mandate this time because the constituencies need to be developed progressively as they were located next to Taiping.

He said there were several problems in the constituencies including land ownership in Kampung Seberang Kedah, Kuala Sepetang, football fields and mini sports complex in Kampung Matang Gelugor that would be solved.

Ahmad Zahid also promised to bring foreign investors to invest in Bukit Gantang to create new jobs for all races.
